Hello,
I want to share something personal and very important with you. Every one of us has good days and bad days. We feel tired, stressed, anxious, or sad. Our moods change. And that is completely normal. You are not alone in this. We all experience it. I do, too.
The problem is, when our body hurts, we know where to go. A doctor will treat a broken arm. But what about when our soul hurts?
For us, the Deaf community, seeking help is often like hitting a giant wall. We face barriers that hearing people don’t know:
- Psychologists don’t know sign language.
- Interpreters are unavailable or don’t understand the complex topics of mental health.
- There are no Deaf peer support workers to help us bridge the communication and cultural gaps.
We feel misunderstood, lost, and unable to express what we are truly going through.
Until now, we have only talked about it. Now, we need proof.
That is why, in collaboration with experts from Slovakia and abroad, we have created the survey: “How I Feel and What Help is Available to Me?” This is not just another questionnaire. It is our tool to gather concrete data and facts.
We will present these results to the government, the Ministry of Health, and the media. We want to show them in black and white: “Look, these are our problems, and this is what we truly need.” Without evidence, no one will take us seriously.
We are asking for 5 minutes of your time that could change the future.
The survey was designed to be as accessible as possible:
- It takes a maximum of 5-10 minutes (its length adapts to your answers).
- There is a Slovak Sign Language (SPJ) video for every question.
- The texts are simplified and easy to understand.
- It is 100% anonymous, and your answers are confidential.
My small team and I are running out of energy to fight. We need the support of the entire community. Every completed questionnaire is a voice that joins others and together they create a force that can no longer be ignored.
Please, don’t keep this to yourself. Share this article and the survey with your friends, family, and acquaintances in the community. The more of us there are, the faster we can break down that wall.
Thank you for choosing to act. Together, we can do this.
