About the Project

The Deaf Museums Project is a European initiative funded by the Erasmus+ program, launched on October 1, 2020. Seven organizations from seven European countries have joined forces with the shared goal of preserving and promoting the heritage of the Deaf community.

Our Motivation

Deaf people have a rich history, their own culture, language, and community values. The aim of the project is to protect, document, and share this unique heritage, ensuring it is not lost over time.

It is important to understand how the lives of Deaf people developed in the past, what their situation is today, and where they are heading in the future.

For both hearing and Deaf people, it is essential to know the past, understand the present, and shape the future.

What Does the Project Offer?

  • Good Practices – examples of activities that help preserve and present Deaf cultural heritage.

  • Collaboration with museum professionals – consultations and exchanges of experience.

  • Basic Museum Skills Course – a handbook for anyone who wants to create or manage their own “Deaf Museum.”
